Bottom line on the AT you can showup, hike and quit. On the PCT, you don't have it together you can die. Just keeping it real for us novices and solo hikers.

We are a hiking couple and agreed with you. Communications is key.... And it is nice to split the gear load.

So if you were hiking as a couple and you split up during the morning hike for 6 miles and the person in the rear never showed up at the designated lunch meeting spot, what would be a good plan of action for the forward person to do?
